Dear Susan,

Thanks for your recent letter. I was glad to hear some news from you.

As for me, I’m crazy about reading. Book is a marvellous creation able entertains people and at the same time gives them valuable wisdom. I enjoy reading Russian and French authors, but my favourite one is Valentin Picul. I like reading his novels and narratives because of his unique manners of writing. Picul tells us stories as if we're close friends having a wonderful conversation. Also, his books are written in my dearest historical genre. However, most of my friends are keen on reading science fiction literature.

By the way, what about you? How many subjects are you going to pass? When will you take your first exam? Are you preparing alone or with close friends?

Computer games have become an integral part of our cultural life. We more often can see people, playing games, than reading a book or watching a film. That raises the following question: “Do computer games teach us anything or not?”

In my opinion, games can teach us a lot to make our life better. Firstly, they educate us from childhood that there is no gain without pain. You cannot attain significant results in life either in a game without tremendous effort. Secondly, gaming gives us understanding that if we want to achieve something great in life, we should repeat our attempts consistently, as we do to become the best players. Finally, games require a lot of concentration to avoid failures, so it helps us be more focused on real life.

However, there is another group of people, believing that computer games cannot teach us anything. According to them, the games are made only to give fun, so they do not consist of knowledge we can use. Besides, the game is so easy to play that you may even lose your ability to do hard things to receive worthy data.

I respect another point of view, but I still consider that games are great educators. By playing we can virtually explore last inventions or try ourselves as astronauts, that is impossible to do in real life. Also, numerous games consist of problems you have to solve using logic and intelligent.

To conclude, computer games will always be a part of our culture alike books and films. They can entertain us and teach us something new as well. We should just make a little effort to catch that knowledge.
