A person who speaks fluently a foreign language can easily work as an interpreter

Nowadays in era of globalization there are many different kinds of jobs. Some people claim that working as interpreter is suitable for people who fluently speaks a foreign language, while other argue that only knowing a foreign language is not enough for working as a translator. In this essay I will try to look upon this issue.

In my opinion, an ability of fluently speaking a foreign language is only a little part of becoming a real interpreter. First of all, such profession demands specific experience. I mean, people often require from a translator a full concentration on their problem and a momentary reaction, therefore an interpreter should be patient and total stress-case. The second reason is that a translator should not only know specific, for instance, physical statements and rules, but also understand these physical processes and explain them in foreign language.

Others believe that a person, knowing a foreign language, can work as an interpreter with no difficulty.

They claim that fluent speaking another language is a basis of such job and the only requirement, because if a man speaks it as well as native language, then he/she can easily do such work.

I cannot agree with this opinion because a qualified translator needs also specific skills and be intelligent person. Also he/she should follow the process of development and renewing of a foreign language.

Despite the fact that many people claim that a great knowing a foreign language gives a “key” from working as an interpreter, I am convinced that it is not enough and becoming a translator along with other professions requires not only one feature.
