You are going to give a talk about education. You will have to start in 1.5 minutes and speak for not more than 2 minutes (10-12 sentences).

Remember to say:

why education is important;

how long compulsory education in Russia is;

what your favourite subject is;

what your ideas of your future job are.

Вариант 1

King Alfred the Great once said: “Learning makes life more rewarding and enjoyable”. I fully agree with him! Education is really very important, because it gives us information about the world and fills our life with new colours. Moreover, without proper education it is impossible to build a good career.

As far as I know, compulsory education in Russia lasts 11 years. A student can either spend all that time at school or leave school after the 9th form and continue education at college.

Colleges, just like schools, give students general knowledge, but they also give them professional training.

As for my favourite subject, I like chemistry most of all. I think this subject is very close to real life. It helps me stay safe in everyday situations, because I know how different medicaments work, how to avoid poisoning or chemical burns, prevent fires, etc.

I have already thought a lot about my future career, but my ideas are still vague. What I am sure of is that my job will be connected with natural sciences. Probably, I will be an expert on chemistry or physics in some oil company.

Вариант 2

A book on psychology that I once read said that playing, learning, and working are the main activities of people. So, without education our life would be incomplete. It is true, because education gives us a wider vision of the world, opens up new career opportunities and brings us into contact with very interesting people.

In my country, every person has to have at least 11 years of education. You can either go to school for 11 years or go to college after the 9th form and continue your education there.

In modern school, there are plenty of subjects, and I like most of them. But my favourite one is mathematics. I believe that it is a very useful subject, as it develops my critical and logical thinking, teaches me to count quickly in everyday situations and also gives me a better understanding of economics, which I am interested in.

As I have just said, I find economics very absorbing. I hope that in the future I will manage to enter some economic university and become a good specialist in that field.
