Some people claim that if a person is fluent in a foreign language, they can easily work as an interpreter, while others disagree with this point of view.
In my opinion, speaking fluently a second language is not the only thing required for a profession of a translator. Firstly, work as an interpreter require developed communication skills, a person of a such profession should be able to find a common language with different people. Secondly, interpreting means translating from one language into another as quickly as possible that is why translator should not only speak fluently but think in another language as well.
However, there are people who claim that to be an interpreter, it is enough to speak fluently in another language.
A person with a good language knowledge knows language features as modern slang words, colloquial words, filthy language. It is enough to translate speech from one language into another.
Nevertheless, I disagree with above-mentioned opinion. To my way of thinking, work as a translator includes not only translating from one language into another, but establishing contact between people from different societies. It means that a translator should know cultural context, local folk traditions and rules of behavior in a country of a second language.
To sum up, despite different opinions, I would like to emphasize that to be an interpreter it is not enough to be fluent in a second language because a such difficult profession requires mach more different skills and knowledge.
