Fahrenheit 451 (Английская Литература)

Last month I read a book called “Fahrenheit 451”. You probably have heard about this dystopian novel because it’s very well-known.  It was written by an American writer, Ray Bradbury, and published in 1953. He has also written many novels but the most popular ones are “Dandelion Wine” and “Something wicked this way comes”.

The story describes the version of the future where all books are outlawed and special people called “firemen” burn them.

The main character, Guy Montag works as a fireman. He has no doubt that he does the right thing, that he helps the society. But one evening he meets a teenage girl whose way of thinking is completely different from his. After some time spent with her, Montag starts to understand that he used to be wrong. He steals a book from one of the houses he was sent to make it burn.

He tries to read it, however it turns out to be not as easy as he had expected. He doesn’t see any point in it at first, but after some time it becomes a little clearer.

However, as you already know, books are outlawed there. And now Montag is in a big trouble because he’s going to be arrested. To avoid this, he runs away from the city and meets a group of old men in the forest. They read, memorize and after that burn books so the police can’t arrest them. Montag joins these people and goes with them to help to bring their plan to life - to rebuilt the society.

I enjoyed reading this book because as I have already told you in my previous book report, I like dystopians. And I think, many people like them too, because we all think about the future sometimes, so why not read the Bradbury’s version of it?
