Spring and summer (Школьные сочинения)

The fact is, the year is divided into four seasons. They are spring, summer, autumn and winter. All the famous poets have many descriptions of nature. They describe the golden days of early autumn, the first sweet flowers of spring, the frosty air of winter and bright sunny days of summer. We take it for granted that every season is thrilling and splendid in its own way.

Undoubtedly, spring is the loveliest season of the year. Nature awakens from her long winter sleep and begin to smile at us. Every day in every way the weather gets better and better. The days grow longer and warmer, the ground gets covered with fresh grass, the first spring flowers make their appearance. Frankly speaking I have a great mind to compare it with the morning.

It's common knowledge that spring months are March, April and May.

In March when it still snows and the winds are rather cold the air already smells of the coming spring.

The rays of the Sun warm the Earth and the weather gets gradually milder. In the daytime icicles hang from the roofs of the houses, but it still freezes rather hard at night. Unfortunately, early spring can be very unpleasant as well. The unpleasant time comes when the thaw sets in. Snow melts and turns to slush. Cars go along the street and passers-by are splashed with mud and slush from head to foot.

But time flies so quickly and fine April days are approaching. The first blades of young grass cover the ground, the buds of the trees come out and a soft wind is fond of playing with young leaves on the trees. Migrant birds return from warm countries, make nests, lay and hatch their eggs.

irches, poplars, maples and other trees are ready to break into blossoms. It goes without saying the most delightful thing are the first spring flowers: snowdrops, lilies of the valley, violets, forget-me-nots

When May comes, the orchards are in full bloom and it's next to impossible to stay indoors on a fine May day. The first spring rains wash everything around. Children enjoy roller skating, cycling and playing outdoors games. The farmers and gardeners have got their hands full in May, as they begin their sowing campaign. They fertilize the soil, plough the fields and plant the crops.

It's well known that spring is followed by summer. It's the farmer's busy season - he works in his fields from morning till night. The graas must be cut and the hay must be made, while the dry weather lasts.

The weather is usually fine and it's much warmer than in spring, sometimes it's even stuffy and the heat is unbearable. In cities oppressive and hot days last no end and it's hard to breathe. Such weather and the hustle and bustle of the town begin to get on nerves. Everyone and everything is longing for a drop of rain. And it comes with flashes of lightning, claps of thunder and even hail. It never rains, but it pours.

But soon it clears up again and a beautiful rainbow appears in the blue sky.

No doubt, the best way to escape from the heat is to go to the country, where there is a river or a lake nearby. Everything around is green in summer, there are a lot of flowers in the fields and gardens. It's so pleasant to get up early in the morning and go for a short walk, to pick pretty flowers in the fields or bring home baskets full of berries and mushrooms.

There is nothing like bathing, swimming and lying in the sun on the bank of the river. It's one of the favorite pastimes for many people. Those who goes on holiday to the seaside enjoy themselves greatly.
